Elementor

Is Elementor not working or not loading?

Does the editor get stuck on the loading screen, do you see the message “The preview could not be loaded,” or has your page layout suddenly broken after an update? This is usually caused by a conflict with the theme or another plugin, outdated Elementor CSS files, or a server setting. Your pages and designs are stored in the database, so they usually haven’t disappeared.

Recognizing it

What symptoms are you seeing?

  • The Elementor editor keeps loading indefinitely.
  • You see “The preview could not be loaded” (in English: “The preview could not be loaded”).
  • After an update, fonts, colors, or spacing are no longer right, or sections are jumbled.
  • The widget panel stays blank or you can’t save.
  • The front end looks different from the editor.
  • The problem started right after an update to Elementor, an add-on, the theme or the PHP version.

Don’t delete Elementor or add-ons, or revert to an older version on a guess. You could lose settings or create new conflicts, even though your designs are still there. Make sure you have a recent backup before taking any steps.

Don’t delete Elementor or add-ons, or revert to an older version without knowing why. This could cause you to lose settings or create new conflicts, even though your designs are still there. Make sure you have a recent backup before taking any steps.

How we work safely

What you can safely try yourself

You’ll find the buttons below in the WordPress dashboard under Elementor → Tools. The exact location of this menu varies by Elementor version.

1. Clear Elementor’s files and dataOn the General tab, click “Clear Files & Data.” Elementor will then remove outdated CSS files and cached data and recreate them the next time someone visits. Your designs will remain intact. Then also clear the cache in your caching plugin or hosting service and reload the page.
2. Test Safe ModeOn the same page, set “Safe Mode” to Enable and save. The editor will then load Elementor only, without your theme and other plugins. Visitors won’t notice anything: Safe Mode only applies to the editor. If the editor loads now, the conflict is with your theme or another plugin.
3. Turn Safe Mode off againThen select Disable again and save. Don’t leave Safe Mode on, and don’t disable plugins one by one on the live site to find the culprit.
4. Make a note of what has changedCheck the plugins screen to see which versions of Elementor, any add-ons and your theme you’re using, and what was updated shortly before the problem started. This information will make it much quicker to find the cause.

When to get help

  • The front end of your site looks broken to visitors.
  • You can’t enable Safe Mode, or the editor still won’t load in Safe Mode.
  • You use Elementor Pro or multiple add-ons and don’t know which one is causing the problem.
  • You don’t have a staging environment or a recent backup.
  • You also see a critical error message or a blank page.

We won’t test plugins on the live site. First, we check the error messages, create a backup, and make targeted repairs so your designs and settings are preserved. Read about how we work at our approach. If you see a critical error message, read what you can do about a critical error. You can find other issues under WordPress problems.

Frequently asked questions

Have I lost my designs?

Usually not. Elementor stores the structure of your pages in the database. Broken layouts are often caused by outdated CSS files or a conflict, not by missing content. So don’t delete anything to try to fix the problem.

What exactly does “Clear Files & Data” do?

Elementor deletes the generated CSS files and cached data, then recreates them when someone visits a page. Your pages, templates, and settings remain intact.

Will visitors see anything of Safe Mode?

No. Safe Mode only applies to the Elementor editor. Visitors will see your site as usual. Just remember to turn it off again after testing.

Should I revert to an older version of Elementor?

It’s best not to do this without a backup and without knowing the cause. An older version can conflict with Elementor Pro, add-ons or your theme, creating a new problem. It’s better to have this checked first.
